I posted this on a different forum to give an account of what I saw as a german defender last year. figured some of you might want to read it. I have some photos too that I never got around to uploading. Hopefully this year i'll take a cheap point & shoot and take a bunch.

What I saw and what we can learn from it to insure a Allied victory this year. While I prefer defending a base rather than attacking it, I am fond of shooting enemy defenders in the ass.

From the 709th point of view: Im not sure when the ghosts withdrew from the beach, its probably better that way though. I'm definately going to remember a radio this time.

The tower on our left side was the first to be breached. While the left side had more defenses, it also prevented out defenders in the back trenches to have a clear shot on the allies. Once the Allies were able to shoot into the lower gunports of the tower, they quickly cleared the tower and our left side of the first trench. The right hand tower fell next. The allied tanks were able to get close enough without exposing themselves to our AT guys. I tried many times to get troops to help reclaim the left tower but only one speedballer would follow me to it. When I reinserted the allies in the trees to the right had pushed up and flanked our beach. they were in sight of our dz. We were able to push them back quite a bit but by then the allies had 1/2 of the beach. Wildriot was talking to the ref and I joined him about our troops inserting to fire from allies baby guarding the dz. The allies took the second to last trench as the Airborne came from the back and cleared out our back trench. (you can see from the vid on the dday forums how many germans were pussyfooting around at the top of the hill watching the battle unfold below)
When we fell back to the airfield, we had a much more defendable point. The allies coming up the hill had no cover at all. We had the thick brush at the summit and the two towers as well. By then I had safetied my gun and was waving a flag and lashing out at germans who were to slow to move when i told them too. No one questioned me, I had a flag and a sword, and was the only one taking charge. Any allied tank approaching the tower was ambushed by AT gunners waiting inside for it to roll in front for a easy shot. Looking down towards the beach, the allies pushed hard for the tree line on our left. We had a few groups flank us and come from the right, but not in any huge numbers. They did do quite a bit of damage however because our backs were to them. We did get pushed back from the towers and into the center of the airfield. Hellhound eventually joined me at the airfield. After multiple runners to our dz and radio requests to the german HQ, we got enough reinforcements to reclaim the two towers and hold down the airfield. Most of our reinserting players had gone off to Colevile or some other battle. I can't remember having anymore than 30-40 players defending the airfield at any one time. I ended up leaving the airfield under Hellhound's command and took a few guys with me to clear out our right flank. We ran into a few Allies but eliminated them without taking any losses. We sat in the shade of the trees guarding the right side for a short while before we were approached by a team of germans heading to reclaim Vierville. After looking at their map and discussing routes they went off and I went back to the airfield. With a few more reinforcements, we took over the Cherbourg bridge towards the Colevile side of the airfield. With only two allies on each side of the bridge we took it easily. Crossing the bridge we found germans on the other side facing allies past them. I returned to the bridge to find Hellhound there with the rest of the guys from the airfield since it had already had its final scoring. He remained at he bridge for its final scoring and I returned to Colevile.
I saw Wildriot in Colevile and linked up with him. I told him about the scoring of the airfeild and the bridge and that Veirville was the last objective besides Colevile. We helped out with some fighting in the St. Larent area and he promoted me to a lieutenant something. I then spotted the Ghost's logistics vehicle and sat inside for a few minutes to cool down and chat with Punisher. When the Allies were pushing on Colevile germans on the left flank were being hit by allies in the trees. I rushed off to join the others in the treeline to push back the allies. I was shot out and running low on paint. When i inserted I shortly ran out of paint. I then left my gun and vest in the vehicle(or on the ground, i cant remember) and ran around with just the sword, directing troops what bunkers to move to. Since they didnt think it was possible, I would run to cover, then turn around and signal someone to run to me. I'd then run back and push more germans to join him in the front bunkers. After lot of verbal threats, waving my sword around in the air, and almost loosing my voice, the time was up and the red flag flew over Colevile.

As for ninja status:
I'm pretty sure I was the only german sporting 2 sword kills that week. 8-)

Put me in a tank and I'll get you kills. Put me in the front lines and I'll get you the bunkers. Put me in the tree-line with some sniper paint and I'll take out the german high command. Put me in a shanty town and I'll give you a fortress. Put me in the back with a map and a radio and I'll get you objectives. Put me on any team and I'll get you a win.
